Have a great bank holiday weekend, mine will be full of finishing my dissertation

Shoes shoes shoes

As some of you may know my Mum and I have been making a dress which I have decided to wear to my university Summer Ball in a few weeks.

As the dress is so summery and bright I have been on the hunt for shoes as I seem to only own black shoes which I think would look a little too heavy.

I have been through all the shops and shoes do not appear to fit me, I have shrunk by half a shoe size which is very difficult. I also wanted pink shoes to go with the pattern on my dress.

I eventually landed online at Asos as their new free delivery was too tempting. I found 2 pairs of shoes I love but am sadly probably going to have to return them.

This pair were only £15 and are very pretty. They are a very similar colour of the underskirt that is going with my skirt which is why I got them. I am a little undecided on them as they are so very high heeled and the heel is skinnier than I am used to so not sure how long I would last dancing in them. They may be a possibility though.

These were more expensive and were still only £40 which isn't too bad. I love love love these. I found the ankle strap a little sore and annoying though which is why it is off in the second picture. I particularly love the little flowers on the side, so cute and add that little something different. They would go great with the '50s style of the dress. They are pinkier in person, less nude coloured but still very light which makes them quite neutral, good for my a colourful dress like mine. These definitely have to go back though as I don't like the ankle strap and when it is off my feet slip out. Other than that they are PERFECT. Such a pity but nevermind.

Keep an eye out for hopefully another more successful buy. Or I may keep the first pair, I will see. I love shoes, wish I had an excuse to keep pairs that I don't wear.

Project 365 - Day 77 (28/04/10)

Day 77: Interesting day today, in particular the weather which is extremely strange. So so so warm but dark rain clouds overhead.

Leggings, dress from Boohoo and my faithful cardigan.

This dress is about a year and a half old and is actually knee length but for summer I pulled it up so its not as warm. Its comfy which I love.

Expect another post up soon about shoes....

Project 365 - Day 76 (27/04/10)

Day 76: Summer, summer, summer. I love it, I've got my super pale legs out at last. Do not expect any change in my complexion over the summer; I am either extremely pale or red as a lobster if I get burned. No tan for me. I have learned to love it though. I have freckles to compensate.

Anyway, wearing an old H&M dress & New Look cardigan today.

Project 365 - Day 74 (25/04/10)

Day 74: Not sure why I didn't smile for this picture and why when I cropped it, no matter what I did it cut off the top of my head but ah well.

I still feel asleep and I think my clothes reflect this; baggy jeans and vest top both from New Look.

Will try and wake up now

Project 365 - Day 72 (23/04/10)

Day 72: Nearly warm enough to wear this dress without a cardigan. For now though, the faithful New Look cardigan does the job, with flip flops and a white Primark top under the dress for comfort.

I was good...

As I said earlier, I went shopping today and bought a pair of trousers that I am totally in love with.

I also tried on a playsuit and a dress from River Island. I was surprised as I have never bought any clothes from River Island as I never fit them properly, either too short or too long or too baggy in one bit or too tight in another bit. So I was very impressed if extremely tempted!!

The playsuit is £24.99 and I think it looks funky, would be perfect for holiday.

The dress was £34.99 and I love the pattern. I just think its so cool and bright and again perfect for holidays. I think this dress is very "me", very colourful and patterned. Paired with some sunglasses and sandals it would be a great daytime outfit but could be easily dressed up with statement earrings and make up.

I am very proud of myself for walking away from both of these and not buying them. I think the summer stuff is gorgeous this year and very easy to wear which I love.

If I was rich eh...

Project 365 - Day 71 (22/04/10)

Day 71: I went shopping today. I bought these amazing trousers from River Island. I've had my eye on these for about a week and absolutely fell in love with them. They are just unbelievably comfortable and I love the zebra print pattern, very funky. And they are really light so great for summer. They were £30 which I didn't think was too bad.

My vest top doesn't look great with this but most of my stuff is in the wash, washing day tomorrow. The top is an old one from Zara.

No more shopping for me.

Project 365 - Day 70 (21/04/10)

Day 70: I wore my shirt dress today for a quick run up to uni but I was so hot when I got home I HAD to change. Bleurgh.

This is an Oasis dress, was in the sale for £15. Bought it in white as well.

Worn with the staple of leggings of course.

Project 365 - Day 69 (20/04/10)

Day 69: No idea what is up with smarmy pose today, I can only apologise.

This is a picture taken just after I came in from a trip into town, was such weird weather I went from hating how much I was wearing to wishing I had more layers.

Faith boots, grey knee-highs, leggings, shorts, new H&M jumper, leather New Look jacket, Peacocks bag and new H&M heart sunglasses.

My inspiration

I've had a fun day today, I created some what I suppose you could call mood boards, except instead of being based on a certain theme they are all just generally what I find inspirational.

Some of the images show fashion I like, some show hair and make up I like and for some it is the way the picture is taken or the overall style of the image I find inspirational.

There is also a cheeky bit of fabric from my dress on one of the boards as I love it and I was very inspired by it when I saw it.

I think in an ideal world I would love to be involved in styling at photoshoots or in the conception of photoshoots so this is my way of gaining a bit of insight into what I like and also what is liked in the fashion and also promotion world.

I stuck them on the outside of my bathroom door, what better place to be constantly reminded of your inspiration?

Project 365 - Day 68 (19/04/10)

Day 68: No hot water today so a slobby outfit. Bleurgh,

New Look baggy jeans and Topshop vest top.

Maxi dresses

I love love love maxi dresses but I have a slight problem with them, that being they appear to all be made for tall girls and I am NOT a tall girl, I am not that short but I am definitely not tall.

I have found one maxi dress that is an alright length on me, it is not floor length but at least I can wear it out and about without tripping over it or dragging the end of it on the floor.

Despite this I still REALLY want a maxi dress that fits properly and that I do not have to wear a top underneath like I do with the one I already own.

In my hunt for a maxi dress I went into town today and found this gorgeous one in Peacocks for a very respectable £22 (ignore the moody look on my face).

I really, really like it however I have again the problem of the length, it streams the floor for a couple of inches at the bottom. I wish they would make them in a variety of lengths, it would make things a lot easier for me. I am thinking I could potentially take up the couple of inches fairly easily but I won't be able to do that until I am home and have a sewing machine so no point in buying it just yet.

So I am pleading with shops to start making maxi dresses in different lengths as I get very annoyed with them streaming the ground, if they do this I will be very pleased.

Project 365 - Day 67 (18/04/10)

Day 67: This outfit shouldn't be too much of a shock, my new green trousers, pure comfort. Black vest top for yet more comfort.

I admit this is not the most flattering outfit but I still love it! You will definitely being seeing much more of these trousers.

Costumes

I love those BBC shows How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, I'd Do Anything and the newest one Over the Rainbow as they are entertaining and the participants are actually talented.

However what I enjoy the most I think is the costumes. Since a young age I have doodled little outfits and my favourite thing to do was to make a group and have them in matching but slightly different outfits, often the colour being the only difference so these shows with their costumes are like my dream come true.

The outfits they wear for their group performances are a brilliant example of this, these are only the Maria and Nancy ones as I cannot find any Dorothy group pictures yet. I don't know why but I just think it is such a great idea for the show and also has the sense of fun and tongue and cheek attitude for the dance sing and dance numbers.

For the individual performances they then change into outfits to suit their song but with their costume colour as the main colour which is always fun but the best bit for me is when they do their group performances that are not in the character of the show. In those sections they wear outfits that are similar but different; sometimes different colours, different styles or different lengths which is fun. This one is a shot from Over the Rainbow.

It reminds of girl bands when I was growing up like B*Witched, Spice Girls and Destiny's Child with the matching but not quite outfits. Actually I loved Destiny's Child for their costumes, not that I particularly liked the outfits themselves but that the theme was always followed through created the fun that was needed in a girl band like theirs.

I think overall I love costumes and they are always the biggest influence on my fashion and they are what made me as addicted to fashion as I was growing. I think a costume is the best way of showcasing true fun and passion which I think is the best thing about fashion. I think this is why I believe you can wear what you want when it is something you love and enjoy.

Project 365 - Day 66 (17/04/10)

Day 66: I told ya you'd see my new clothes a lot, already I'm wearing my jumper again. I couldn't resist, so comfy and very 80's, always a winner. Teamed with leggings to make it truly 80's. And even my crinkly (technical term of course) hair adds to the throwback vibe.

Love my look today. I don't ever see myself getting out of these clothes.

Project 365 - Day 65 (16/04/10)

Day 65: Today I went shopping and I thought I would show you what I bought as I am now wearing them.

I got these awesome green harem pants, big baggy green jumper and these sunglasses - I love them because they are heart shaped! I am also sporting one interesting pose and pout!

I didn't get anything from New Look, shocking I know, but instead it is all from H&M and all for a brilliant £22. Not too shabby I think.

I feel very happy with my buys and expect to see them lots, the trousers and top are perfect for lazy days, may have to buy them in some more colours.

Hope your Friday is just as funky.

The Leaders Debate

Don't worry this hasn't turned into a political blog but I have just been watching the Leaders Debate tonight and the first thing I noticed was that their ties matched the colour of their political party which I thought was clever.

However I was a bit confused by Brown's choice, Labour's colour is red and Brown's tie is clearly pink, surely as the big cheese of the Labour party he would have a red tie?

He needs a stylist poor man.

Hopefully I can find a picture to back this up at some point.

Kinda disgusted in myself that the first thing I noticed in a political debate is the colour of the ties...

My mum always says I can be looking at the most unusual situation and I will always spot the fashion, I think she is definitely right.

Project 365 - Day 64 (15/04/10)

Day 64: A little colder today than it has been hence the multiple layers.

Faith boots, grey socks, leggings, denim shorts I've made, Primark t-shirt, H&M cardigan, leather jacket, Mum's scarf and Turkish earrings.

It's supposed to warm up again tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.

Project 365 - Day 63 (14/04/10)

Day 63: I really couldn't be bothered to get ready today so a pretty boring outfit, but I like that my socks and cardigan match!

Black jeans, pale pink vest top and Primark cardigan.

Despite the exciting outfit I am super happy today, think the weather really does make me super happy :)

My Favourites

Project 365 reached the end of its second month a few days ago so I'm going to pick my favourite outfit from month 1 and month 2 and see if you agree.

Month 1:

I chose my Day 10 evening outfit as I love all the parts separately and I love them even more together. My red dress is so versatile and can be worn with anything but I think the black tights, gladiator heels and leather jacket make it edgy not just classic. The black clutch with the pink flower really makes it a little less boring and the blue earrings and necklace add a statement that I always love to do. If I went out more often this would be a look more regularly seen.

Month 2:

For the second month I chose my outfit from Day 36 which was for going to a lecture. I loved it as it was dressed down but still made a bit of an impact and wasn't boring. I love my leather jacket as well which helps. The top is one I made and have worn it as a dress so always love things I make a little bit more. I was surprised it looked as casual as it did so think I can make things more versatile in my wardrobe. I will probably be wearing this outfit again in the not to distant future.

So what do you think of my choices? Do you think they are my best two outfits of the first 60 days of Project 365?

Project 365 - Day 62 (13/04/10)

Day 62: Chilled out day today so wearing simple baggy jeans, t-shirt from Zara and pink cardigan.

All favourites for today.

Project 365 - Day 61 (12/04/10)

Day 61: Today I traveled back to uni and have mulled around since then. Trying to do work and lacking motivation.

Wearing my New Look slippers, leggings, Miss Selfridge skirt, a recently rediscovered black vest top from Topshop and of course the purple New Look cardigan. I'm very matchy; black and purple, I even have purple nails today.

My dress is nearly complete but there a few bits to finish and as I have no sewing machine *sad face* my mum is finishing it off for me. Think she'll be bringing it up in a few weeks for me which I am excited about.

That's all for today

Project 365 - Day 60 (11/04/10)

Day 60: As you can tell by my bed, I was getting ready to get into bed and remembered I had to do the blog.

Had a lovely last day of my Easter holiday's today with lots of my family and my boyfriend.

My dress is coming along nicely but not quite finished so will keep you updated on that.

Wearing New Look baggy jeans and the borrowed top from my sister/Mum. Went to the pub for food earlier and wore it with black pumps, leather jacket and my Mum's scarf.

Back to uni tomorrow so expect lots of slobby clothes.

Making a dress...

As I said on my post yesterday I have been making a dress. Many reasons why I decided to do this but I'm pleased I am. Me and Mum have been working very hard yesterday and today and hopefully we will be finished tomorrow. But for now, here is sneak peak.

I already do not want to take it off, it makes me feel so glamorous. It's a 50's style dress and makes me feel like a mixture of Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe, two personal style idols.

I fell in love with the fabric straight away and when I bought it the cashier asked if I was making a 50s dress, I obviously got the right vibe from the fabric.

This picture only shows a little of the dress and does not show it off so keep an open mind for the finished product.

I've learned so much doing this dress; how to properly sew darts, gather a skirt, make an underskirt but mainly that pretty much every mistake can be repaired pretty easily when dressmaking.

Looking forward to showing you the final product. Watch out for it. Should be loverly I think.

Project 365 - Day 59 (10/04/10)

Day 59: I'm channeling Katie Holmes a little today, accidentally of course and I do wish I could pull it off like her.

I've been doing more dressmaking today (watch out for a post a little later) so comfy clothes. Rolled up baggy jeans, vest top and cardigan, all New Look.

Short and sweet

Project 365 - Day 58 (09/04/10)

Day 58: Couldn't get to my computer in time so sent this picture before midnight and am filling it in just after so it still counts ;)

Had a busy day, I'm making a dress. Hopefully I'll be able to show you it soon. It should look gorgeous. Lots of colour & floral pattern of course, it is me after all. I'll be keeping you all posted.

Back to what I'm wearing; brown Faith boots, leggings, orange Miss Selfridge skirt, Primark "Tutti Frutti" t-shirt, New Look leather jacket and Mum's scarf.

Off to bed now, sleep tight all

Project 365 - Day 57 (08/04/10)

Day 57: Ahhhhh I love the weather today! AMAZING!! I walked out with my flowery blazer on and had to take it off and replace it with my cardigan as it was too warm, this is actually awesome!!

So today I wore pumps (not in picture, NO socks, leggings, a one shouldered dress that I cut the sleeve off, red belt, H&M necklace, New Look cardigan and gold earrings. I am so happy but shocked by how much black I am wearing.

More colour tomorrow me thinks.

Much love

P.S. Rubbish picture quality today sorry.

Wednesday 7 April 2010

Project 365 - Day 56 (07/04/10)

Day 56: I thought I'd show you my outfit with my jacket on and off as this top has cool sleeves, today it has been worn by my mum, my big sister and me today. Not as gross as it sounds, mum bought it and put it on but didn't like it so gave it to my sister who tried it on (it looked lovely on her) and then I tried it on for fun so she let me where it out for an evening at my friends as what I was during the was covered in fishcakes (I make a mean fishcake but I'm messy!). I think it's a fun top and it looked lovely on my mum and my sister, it has a touch of the '70s about it which is always good.

The rest of my outfit: brown Faith boots, leggings, shorts I made, top already explained (I think it's from Sainsbury's), New Look floral jacket, long necklace (a present so no idea where its from) and earrings from Turkey.

I like this look today, colourful and fun but surprisingly flattering.

Well I'm off to bed...at last.

Much love

Project 365 - Day 55 (06/04/10)

Day 55: Had another fun, busy day today: made a cheesecake and a victoria sponge, made burgers from scratch for dinner, played with my niece and nephew and did two loads of washing. Then went to the coast for the evening, this picture is me at said coast and all I can think is Janice Dickinson would hate it, mainly due to the fact I look like I have one leg, but ah well.

I am wearing brown Faith boots, leggings, New Look heart print dress, red belt, scarf from my mum, Topshop coaty-jacket, Peacock's blue bag and green earrings from Turkey.

Hair scraped back as it was annoying me.

Project 365 - Day 54 (05/04/10)

Day 54: I feel a little run down today (as you can tell by my disheveled appearance) so had a relaxing day, did some painting though. As my outfit was rather boring I thought I would also show you my abstract work. Do you like? It was fun!

I'm wearing leggings, purple skirt, black Sainsbury's vest top and pink H&M cardigan.

I love having creative days. They make me happy.

Project 365 - Day 53 (04/04/10)

Day 53: Happy Easter to you all. Hope you had a day as fun as mine.

Wearing leggings, this H&M dress which was long but is now pinned up, red belt, Primark cardigan and earrings from Turkey when I was on holiday.

That is all for today

Project 365 - Day 52 (03/04/10)

Day 52: Grrr when I upload my photos from my phone the text doesn't appear to er...appear! So here is now an explanation of my outfit.

I wore three outfits again tonight; one to bake and mess about in, one for my nephews party and this for a night out. Funny picture, it was my Mum's first try at taking a picture on iPhone bless her, it took many attempts.

I'm wearing my beloved gladiator heels, tights, French Connection dress (I got in the sale, reduced from £110 to £20!!), my lovely flowery blazer, big earrings and the obligatory red lipstick.

I'm sure there will be another picture of this dress at a later date so no need for a close up today.

Much love

Friday 2 April 2010

Project 365 - Day 51 (02/04/10)

Day 51: Another super busy day; made fish pie (for the first time) for 11, then made lots of cakes (they're pretty!) and did some babysitting tonight.

Due to the first two activities my top is covered in a mixture of food products but ah well, its a busy but productive day. And you can't see that it's dirty in this picture so it technically doesn't count.

Wearing blue tights, shorts I made, blue vest top & pink H&M cardigan.

I'm enjoying the beginning of the long weekend and three more days to go. WOOHOO!!

Project 365 - Day 50 (01/04/10)

Day 50: Happy April Fools day everyone!! I only fell for one prank today, I follow someone's blog and got Rick Rolled from their latest post. First time ever and I can't believe I fell for it.

Anyway, less busy day today, did lots of uni work so comfy clothes again, back to my proper student fashion.

Baggy New Look jeans, Primark t-shirt and my beloved purple cardigan. Awful picture of me, I really need to learn how to hold myself properly.

That's it for today.

Much love
