Window Shopping

I went into town today which was a bit lethal. I haven't been window shopping in quite a while and my boyfriend got a little bored with me getting excited by everything I saw in pretty much every shop.

Now, I have to say things have not changed and I would recommend everything from New Look, soft pastels - or sorbet pastels - are all over the place and everything is such a bargain in there.

I did detour though when I saw this dress in the window of Monsoon. I love that shop but it is too expensive for a poor student like me. This dress caught my eye though, I not only think the colour is amazing but the pattern is very retro and really interesting without being OTT. I think its a dress that anyone can wear and a way to experiment with colour and pattern without feeling like you look like an explosion (like I usually do!!).

If I bought it I'd team it with a pair of bright pink heels (I found these on another blog) and clutch bag. I know the blue and pink seems extreme but they work well together. Yes as always its very colourful because its me but you could keep it a bit more tame with silver instead of pink.

So if anyone would like to spend £95 on me, this dress is where I would like it to go.

Thank you :)

Project 365 - Day 18 (28/02/10)

Day 18: Andy is not feeling fragile anymore so he took another 'artistic' picture for today. Not sure about my pose though...

DM's, leggings, denim dress from H&M, red belt, green New Look top and grey New Look cardigan.

I have a love/hate relationship with this denim dress. I love it as I think it looks nice but I hate it as it can be a little unflattering if worn with the wrong thing and occasionally gets a little uncomfortable. But I liked it today so I'm wearing it. Plus it has big pockets in the front and back which I love on any item of clothing.

Much love

Project 365 - Day 17 (27/02/10)

Day 17: Today has been a late one as my boyfriend is feeling a little fragile so I couldn't open the curtains to get any decent light.

I'm just hanging around today so wearing comfy jeans, pale pink vest top and purple cardigan (all New Look of course).

I thought I would take this opportunity to reassure you all that I do wash this cardigan VERY regularly so I don't smell!!

Project 365 - Day 16 (26/02/10)

Day 16: Apparantly today was a day of wearing black as it is Johnny Cash's birthday and it was suggested as a way of remembering him, well this is the best I could do I'm afraid Johnny -hope ya don't mind.

My boyfriend took this picture and he's into photography so tried to make it arty. It's a bit different at least.

Anyway onto the clothes - this is a knee-length summer dress from H&M. Of course I love it as its bright and patterned and colourful. With the obligatory pink tights and purple cardigan for yet more colour.

You know when my friends and family say I am very colourful, I did believe them but this blog is really telling me how right they are.

So yet again a very colourful day for me

Project 365 - Day 15 (25/02/10)

Day 15: For some reason I look like I'm peering over the camera in this. I'm pretty sure I wasn't...

Anyway, this cardigan thing is great, it was from www.boohoo.com and has lots of cows and trees and stuff on - it's fun. I made this skirt about 4 years ago from a pair of jeans that shrunk in the wash and got too short, it's something I wear quite a lot as its so very comfortable. My blue tights that are also very comfortable and very thick.

Having a comfortable day today as I'm sure you can tell by the excessive use of the word in this post.

Thank you

To anyone who wore colourful and spring-like clothes today. It worked - it was actually WARM on my way to uni today!! Of course it was freezing on the walk home but we'll ignore that.

Thank you all.

It made me very happy.

Project 365 - Day 14 (24/02/10)

Day 14: First things first, a long Distance HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my big sis :)

I love birthdays, especially in my family so always hate being away!

Today's outfit is an attempt to coax out the spring weather from wherever it is, however I also had to be practical *sad face*.

My top is a summer favourite, from Dorothy Perkins, about 3 years old. Purple cardigan of course, shorts that I made and pink tights. These tights are colourful but are also my thickest pair so I won't freeze once I head out to my lecture.

Hope you all have a colourful day, if enough of us do it then maybe spring will decide to come out!

Project 365 - Day 13 (23/02/10)

Day 13: Ah this isn't good...another thank you to my sister Síle for another hand me down. I believe this was from Peacocks. I just love the pattern (again) and all the colours in it which is why I did the close up so you could all see it!

Wearing it with leggings for pure comfort today, got a lecture tonight so just doing work in the flat during the day.

Apparently its supposed to snow - its absolutely FREEZING outside so I wouldn't be surprised.

I am going to wrap up like an Eskimo to walk to uni later. Brrrrrrrrr

Project 365 - Day 12 (22/02/10)

Day 12: Popped out to do some errands today.

Wearing a dress that my big sister gave me, thanks Síle! She got it a few years ago from New Look (it must be a family thing). Lovely little flower pattern and I like the length, very girly. Again purple cardigan, leggings, brown boots, green scarf and a smile :)

I wore my blue maternity jacket thing over the top to brace the cold with, its getting warmer though :)

Project 365 - Day 11 (21/02/10)

Day 11: First pyjama day of the blog!! Get ready for a lot more of these. The pyjama bottoms are amazing, they're fluffy and I love cows.

Hope you're Sunday goes as comfortably as mine

Project 365 - Day 10 Part 2 (20/02/10)

Day 10 Part 2: Here's a little treat for today, as I went out last night I thought I would show off my second outfit of the day.

Mainly due to the fact that this dress is a favourite of mine. I got it in the Warehouse sale, it was £55 but I got it for £15. Can't really see the structure here but it is gorgeous, I wear it lots as I can make it a bit funky like here with gladiator heels, clutch, leather jacket and long necklace. Or I can it a bit classier like when I wore it to the theatre with pumps, a fitted blazer and pashmina. And I've even dressed it down with a cardigan and my DM's.

So I have decided, instead of needing a LBD (Little Black Dress) everyone should have a LRD (Little Red Dress). It even goes against the rules of what redheads should wear but I don't care. It's AWESOME!

Project 365 - Day 10 (20/02/10)

Day 10: Doing food shopping but am pleasantly surprised by the warm weather and lots of sunshine :)

Wearing the brown boots that would have made day 8 a bit too cowboy-esque, leggings, a Primark dress about 4 years old which I still love, red belt, green Primark scarf (which is actually a sarong - good find!) and this is an amazing jacket/cardigan/coat thing!

This jacket/cardigan/coat is from Topshop, I don't often venture in there as its a little overpriced for a poor student like me but I fell in love with this. It has a secret though...its from the maternity section. Can you believe it?? I can understand why but I think its far to comfy and nice to be just maternity so I got it anyway. Well I say 'I' - Mum bought it for me, as I said Topshop + poor student = cannot afford so rely on the kindness of others.

So I encourage you all to look at the maternity section in shops as they have some awesome stuff. I wear this LOTS and LOTS!

Oh and purple nail varnish - not matching anything today!

Bum bag - Yay or Nay?

I was watching This Morning today and apparantly bum bags are making a comeback and I have to say if they look more like this Louis Vuitton one than the black ones with multi-coloured patched that I'm more used to from the 80's and 90's then I am more likely to be on board.
That does not mean however that I love this look at the moment. This Morning showed a selection that looked a lot nicer than I would have thought and I cannot get over how practical they would be. Which is not like me at all.
Now I don't think I could ever pull off such a look personally but if I was festivaling it this year I think I would definitely get one, it would most definitely be more comfortable and easy than anything else. I do think they will be all over the festivals this years.
Anyway that all doesn't matter because I cannot tell if it is just a completely ridiculous reinvention of something I'm pleased is gone, or if it is a funky and practical new trend.
So help me out and let me know what you think...
Much love

Wooohooo

So you all know I can now reply to comments on here so I will no longer have to ignore anyone. Yay :)

Project 365 - Day 9 (19/02/10)

Day 9: I'm having a day and night of doing work so dressed comfy. Leggings, pink fluffy socks, purple skirt from Miss Selfridge, blue Primark cardigan and t-shirt from Zara.

I love this t-shirt so thought I would show you it properly. It's about 3 years old and I think it almost looks like a clown top - which I'm sure isn't usually a good thing but I like it. Makes it more than just a black t-shirt.

Oh and blue nails today. Matching the cardigan - an accident I promise you.

Well I best get on and actually do some work.

Project 365 - Day 8 (18/02/10)

Day 8: Bought this dress about 4 years ago from the Oasis sale. Don't wear it loads but love it lots when I do. Wearing it with a belt, otherwise it looks like a patterned sack on me, this way it has some shape to it.

Tempted to wear my brown boots today (will show them another day) but afraid I'd look one cowboy hat away from being fancy dress...

Project 365 - Day 7 (17/02/10)

Day 7: I decided to smile in today's picture even though I'm blue da ba dee da ba die... Sorry bad joke.

I'm not sure why I'm so blue, it was very accidental. I nearly wore a blue cardigan but decided against it.

I love these tights, so bright! I made the shorts myself, the jeans shrunk in the wash so were too short but I decided to use them anyway. This top is a fave, got it from H&M 3 years ago and wear it lots as I'm sure you will see. The cardigan is equally old, from New Look of course, it has had a lot of wear and tear over the years but at the moment is too comfy for me to give up.

A blue and smiley post today. Hope you enjoy

Hmmm...

Not sure why but I can't comment on my blog posts so I am not ignoring any of you. I'll try and work on it and hopefully get it sorted soon.

Thanks for the comments though everyone.

Project 365 - Day 6 (16/02/10)

Day 6: Traveling back to uni today so nothing too exciting, but not as cold as Friday thankfully.

New Look jeans and cardigan (I really do think New Look should sponsor me with all I promote for them) with a H&M dress/top thing. Love this top, animal prints are a fave.

Haven't mentioned yet, but it will get a proper post soon I'm sure, my luggage (which you can see on my bed). This was a 21st birthday present from my friends and it is amazing, not sure what I'd do without it - plus its purple and got a cool print so perfect for me.

Back to being a lazy student for me now.

Project 365 - Day 5 (15/02/10)

Day 5: Just chilling out at home today.

Wearing my heart print dress and leggings. Comfy and a bit of fun.

Rubbish picture due to the light in my room but you get the idea.

Short and sweet today.

Project 365 - Day 4 (14/02/10)

Day 4: Me and my big sister cooked a roast for the family, just the 11 of us for dinner today, usually lots more. This picture is obviously to show me hard at work cooking...

Anyway, the purple New Look cardigan I told you I wear with everything with a lovely green vest top, flowery Miss Selfridge skirt (only £3 in the sale!) and blue tights. I think this sums up my love of colour, if I was going anywhere today I probably would have worn some colourful accessories...I really do love colour, it makes me smile lots.

Well I'm pleased I was brighter today than the last few days. No red or pink for Valentines though!

Project 365 - Day 3 (13/02/10)

Day 3: These pictures (two today, aren't you lucky?) not only show what I wore but also where I went today...ohhh exciting. Um anyway...!

I went up to London Docklands today to do some research in the museum for my dissertation. It wasn't too cold so wore my trusty New Look (of course) jumper and jeans with Mum's scarf. I love this jumper, it's so soft and warm and has a bit of colour through it so keeps it bright. Teamed with my pink bag and pumps, it almost felt like summer, well not quite but a lot better than yesterday.

Not too exciting today I'm afraid, though this jumper always makes me smiley - hope it makes you smiley as well :)

Project 365 - Day 2 (12/02/10)

Day 2: Bleurgh. Travelling home for the weekend and wearing extremely unflattering but warm outfit for the nearly 5 hour journey and expected snow.

Wearing New Look jeans, DMs, uni hoody, Mum's scarf and New Look hat.

Hopefully back to slightly more stylish tomorrow

Much love

P.S. Sorry with the mess up with this post today. Sent it a few times but it didn't work

Alexander McQueen

I do not like to be all serious or preachy or anything but from the advice of my friend Liz I have decided to show my respects to the late Alexander McQueen on here.

I tried to find a picture to show everyone how amazing Alexander McQueen's work was and realised that I loved it all and could not provide an objective view on them.

He was a genius in my opinion, I always considered him to be one of the greats in fashion and it is so sad that his talent has gone.

My deepest respects go out to anyone that knew him.

Project 365 - Day 1 (11/02/10)

Day 1: I did not realise how difficult it was going to be to pick an outfit knowing it was definitely going on the blog and not just going to be seen by my friends at uni. Lots of pressure but I got over it pretty quickly and just put on what I would have anyway.

I have lectures this afternoon but don't have to leave until 2.30pm - ah the life of a student - so I'm not wrapped up for going out just yet, otherwise all you would have seen is a massive coat with my head sticking out the top.

Anyway on to the real issue, what I actually am wearing. I have on the obligatory 2 pairs of thick tights and pair of long socks due to the cold weather. I always try to wear colourful tights as it makes a winter outfit a bit brighter, these are my faves at the moment - a very nice bluey colour. The dress is new, its very cute and has a big cut out heart in the back which is a bit unique and was a bargain from New Look. The purple cardigan is what I live in (again from New Look) and the red belt I think nips in the waist a bit and not only adds yet more colour but breaks up the outfit a little bit. A good tip I think is when you wear something like this, the cardigan over the top skims over you but the belt shows off a smaller waist which overall is very flattering.

To leave for my lecture I will add a thick purple cardigan, scarf, gloves, my DM's and a big warm coat as it is absolutely freezing outside, though no snow which is slightly disappointing as I like making snowmen and have become rather good at it.

Project

With my brothers help I have decided to embark on a mini project and take a picture of what I wear everyday for a year.

It probably would have been best to start this on January 1st but we'll ignore that.

I can see if I wear the same outfits lots or if I'm much more adventurous and we can also see just how many pyjama days I really have (Tesco won't like that!).

So starting tomorrow there will be at least one update everyday, more if you're lucky, so keep your eyes peeled.

Hope you enjoy this little experiment

New jacket = big smiles from me :)

This is the first picture taken specifically for the blog and kind of ironically my camera broke so its the iPhone for the time being.

I went to the pub last night for a few drinks and very unlike me I dressed up (for me anyway) and loved it. I think it was just an excuse for me to wear my new jacket which I adore more than anything at the moment. This was a complete bargain, only £15 and it completely sums up how much I am really into print and as I like to do, it makes a real splash. This pattern has been very popular recently and I wanted a dress or top in the print but now lots of people are wearing them so I loved this as it had the print but in an unusual way. It really updates what could be a very boring outfit and adds a bit of fashion to black jeans and a vest top.

I have of course added more to this outfit than was necessary and you can't really see in this picture. I had two necklaces, a sequin bracelet, a blue flower in my hair, blue earrings, a black clutch with a big pink flower on, black shoes with metallic pink heels and my favourite - lipstick. I love the Coco Chanel quote "always take off one accessory before you leave the house" and I do very much agree with it but I cannot live by it myself, I always "over-accessorize" but I think it looks great personally.

As I write this while still in my pyjamas at 1.30pm I realise that while I love getting dressed up, as this post shows, I think I love pyjamas more than anything else. So I thought I would share with you that today is officially a pyjama day and I have no intention of moving much further than my bed and the kitchen. Ah I love being a student. Hope you all are having an equally enjoyable day.

Much love

Get creative

This is a little representation of my DIY fashion design. I have very basic sewing skills I learnt from my mum at a young age and was reinforced in technology in year 7 at school. I would never be able to design and make a dress or top by myself so I tend to cheat. This is a classic example.

I was desperate for a one shouldered top/dress but I did not want to spend a lot of money on it so I headed down to Tesco to buy a mens large black t-shirt. I grabbed a bottle of bleach and diluted it with water and splattered it all over the t-shirt (in the garden of course!). I forgot that on black it would turn orange but loved it. I cut off the sleeves and pulled in the sides but I felt it lacked something which is when I bought the orange ribbon and sewed it on the sleeve and around the collar. I love this as it looks so different and no-one has anything like it and it makes a real splash. My mum bought me orange, patent trainers to match but they were a size too big, I was gutted - they looked awesome!

I always get compliments when I wear this, especially when I tell people I made it from a £3 mens black t-shirt which is always satisfying.

I think I enjoy learning how to do these things so pick up little tips here and there but a basic sewing course with adult education would give you more skills then I have now. It's fun to make your own things and great that you do not see anyone else with it. Even if you get a a top you like and do the bleach effect using this technique, it will update the look and you'll feel like you have something new in your wardrobe without spending anything.

Enjoy getting creative peeps

Just a quick one

I love Britney Spears...always have, always will but I look at what she wore to the Grammys yesterday and I just wonder what happened! The poor girl wore a body suit with a lace knee-length dress over the top and fishnets - I can see what she was trying to do but it did not work. She looked bigger than she is and extremely uncomfortable, she can do much better than that!!
If the body was just a knee-length dress instead she would have looked classy, on trend and made a splash. Much better.

There, rant over! Britney I love you, back on track soon please :)
