Project 365 - Day 224 (23/09/10)

Day 224: Now I think I should have worn this to go line dancing last night.... ;)

A very cowboy-esque shirt dress which is very old from Oasis. I wore it with a pink belt to stop it being a sack and my ruched side leggings.

Day 223: Rocking the double denim to go line dancing, I felt it was appropriate. the denim shorts and shirt are paired with leggings and red vest top. And stripey socks.

Project 365 - Day 222 (21/09/10)

Day 222: These are more purchases from my ASDA trip yesterday, well purchases of my Mum's that she got me as she is lovely :)

This denim shirt is awesome, I got it a size too big as I wanted it to be a bit looser and not tight. I love the denim shirt trend and wish I had more but I think this one is quite versatile so I'm happy. The leggings I also love, for a bargain of £9 and with awesome detail down the side (2nd picture). So comfy but a bit different, I love it.

Painting

I got a little bored the other night and decided to get my creativity back. I took everything I love; painting, colours and animal print and decided to put them all together.

My first canvas is a purple and blue zebra print. I absolutely love how this turned out. I was surprised at how good it looked.

The second one is a leopard print in pinks with a pale blue background. I am not 100% sure about this one but it is definitely growing on me.

I want to do more of these but I think the leopard print one needs some work if I do another one. I think if I could my life would be filled with animal print and this is another way to get a little more of it. They are currently pride of place on my wall.

What do you think? What other colours would do you think I should do?

Project 365 - Day 205 (04/09/10)

Day 205: I believe this is the most interesting outfit I've worn in days. I bought this playsuit from Oasis today for £10, reduced from £40. BARGAIN! I am loving playsuits at the moment and this is the first one I really find flattering and comfortable on me. It's very very soft. I wore this today with tights, my brown boots, leather jacker and long heart necklace which I got years years ago.

Two-tone hair

It appears that this trend is not very popular but I really am loving it. This is a very hippy, grown out roots look which I really can relate to. It's relaxed and casual. I do think that Drew Barrymore has really rocked this look the best but I do love Ashlee Simpson and Rachel Bilson's look as well.

I think I may like this look as I am partially (accidently) rocking it myself at the moment due to real grown out roots. But I would definitely get it done properly. It's so different. I'm really not sure why it is hated so much but it really is. I have yet to find anyone say they love it like I do.

So what do you think? Love it or hate it?

My inspiration

I've had a fun day today, I created some what I suppose you could call mood boards, except instead of being based on a certain theme they are all just generally what I find inspirational.

Some of the images show fashion I like, some show hair and make up I like and for some it is the way the picture is taken or the overall style of the image I find inspirational.

There is also a cheeky bit of fabric from my dress on one of the boards as I love it and I was very inspired by it when I saw it.

I think in an ideal world I would love to be involved in styling at photoshoots or in the conception of photoshoots so this is my way of gaining a bit of insight into what I like and also what is liked in the fashion and also promotion world.

I stuck them on the outside of my bathroom door, what better place to be constantly reminded of your inspiration?

Maxi dresses

I love love love maxi dresses but I have a slight problem with them, that being they appear to all be made for tall girls and I am NOT a tall girl, I am not that short but I am definitely not tall.

I have found one maxi dress that is an alright length on me, it is not floor length but at least I can wear it out and about without tripping over it or dragging the end of it on the floor.

Despite this I still REALLY want a maxi dress that fits properly and that I do not have to wear a top underneath like I do with the one I already own.

In my hunt for a maxi dress I went into town today and found this gorgeous one in Peacocks for a very respectable £22 (ignore the moody look on my face).

I really, really like it however I have again the problem of the length, it streams the floor for a couple of inches at the bottom. I wish they would make them in a variety of lengths, it would make things a lot easier for me. I am thinking I could potentially take up the couple of inches fairly easily but I won't be able to do that until I am home and have a sewing machine so no point in buying it just yet.

So I am pleading with shops to start making maxi dresses in different lengths as I get very annoyed with them streaming the ground, if they do this I will be very pleased.

Project 365 - Day 59 (10/04/10)

Day 59: I'm channeling Katie Holmes a little today, accidentally of course and I do wish I could pull it off like her.

I've been doing more dressmaking today (watch out for a post a little later) so comfy clothes. Rolled up baggy jeans, vest top and cardigan, all New Look.

Oscars Oscars Oscars

Well it had to be done I'm afraid. Every year Oscar's fashion truly gets me and this year I get to give you my opinion on it - lucky you eh. I'm not going to go through everything but for a really good showing of everything Oscar's fashion related head over to Go Fug Yourself which is where I got all my pictures.

There were quite a few gorgeous dresses this year but I really fell in love with Jennifer Lopez (right) and Amanda Seyfried's (left) Armani dresses and they are very memorable. I have been reading up about these and they were not that popular as they were seen as too wedding-y, which I can see but for the Oscars you can pretty much go as OTT as you like surely. My only disappointment was a strange angle from Jennifer Lopez's dress but as long as she stands the other way I love it. Another point a few people have made that I agree with is that Amanda Seyfried looks like a little girl in this and Jennifer Lopez's curves work so much better for this look. Much more womanly.


Now for the less gorgeous dresses. This is Zoe Saldana from Avatar who is absolutely stunning...just not in this. I love kooky, mad stuff but this is just a bit too much kooky with not quite enough of a good fit. I love the sparkly bust on this but the purple skirt looks like it doesn't fit and is extremely unflattering, it also looks a little cheap, especially in comparison to all the amazing fabrics on the red carpet last night. Now onto the poofy end, I love the idea of this but I just don't think it was executed well, its all the slits it in and the long bit up one side that makes it look, well, weird. I think if the sparkly bust had come down to her hips and then the skirt was all that poofy material it could have been pretty awesome, in the same vein and a bit of a play on this Penelope Cruz dress that I loved.

There were some other disasters and some more amazingness last night. Kate Winslet was pretty boring and reminded me of Sixth Form leavers ball dress which is a pity. Helen Mirren looked amazing - not just for a woman her age but in general, Oscars glam to a T. I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal's look, though some people thought the pattern was a bit too much, I still think it's amazing and if it was knee length I would buy it today. Miley Cyrus did a great attempt it just needed a better fit and for her to stand up straight for it too work. Last but not least Sarah Jessica Parker let me down and looked like a very shiny and sparkly sack (I have to say I like the sparkly bit of anything, even a sack).

One last note, Asos have done a clever Oscar's page, splitting some of the looks up to soft and strong styles and pointing you towards their similar styles. It's fun!! If a little too tempting!

Beautiful

I found this today and I love it!! Its from Republic and only £26.99, so quite a bargain.

I have a few issues (as always):

1. I am very short and maxi dresses often swamp me
2. It is so very summery and although it is warmer than it has been, I still probably won't be able to wear it for months.
3. I think I only love it because its colourful and has a flowery pattern, which we all know I love very much.
   

I also have counter arguments for all of these arguments and if I could justify it we all know I would definitely buy this but I am more practical than that - when I choose to be anyway!

If it was July I don't think I would have stopped to think about buying it, so I suppose it proves I don't care about the issues I raised, its definitely LOVE.

Window Shopping

I went into town today which was a bit lethal. I haven't been window shopping in quite a while and my boyfriend got a little bored with me getting excited by everything I saw in pretty much every shop.

Now, I have to say things have not changed and I would recommend everything from New Look, soft pastels - or sorbet pastels - are all over the place and everything is such a bargain in there.

I did detour though when I saw this dress in the window of Monsoon. I love that shop but it is too expensive for a poor student like me. This dress caught my eye though, I not only think the colour is amazing but the pattern is very retro and really interesting without being OTT. I think its a dress that anyone can wear and a way to experiment with colour and pattern without feeling like you look like an explosion (like I usually do!!).

If I bought it I'd team it with a pair of bright pink heels (I found these on another blog) and clutch bag. I know the blue and pink seems extreme but they work well together. Yes as always its very colourful because its me but you could keep it a bit more tame with silver instead of pink.

So if anyone would like to spend £95 on me, this dress is where I would like it to go.

Just a quick one

I love Britney Spears...always have, always will but I look at what she wore to the Grammys yesterday and I just wonder what happened! The poor girl wore a body suit with a lace knee-length dress over the top and fishnets - I can see what she was trying to do but it did not work. She looked bigger than she is and extremely uncomfortable, she can do much better than that!!
If the body was just a knee-length dress instead she would have looked classy, on trend and made a splash. Much better.
